Winter Smokey Eye Tutorial

Hi my lovelies,

Today I have a new video and post for you which is going to be my Winter Smokey Eye tutorial.  I love doing a darker eye look during the colder season because 1) it stays longer and doesn't run like it can during the more humid summer months 2) the environment is so pale and white that I feel like I can get away with some bolder shades and 3) the shimmer adds a little something extra to those months without a tan!  I hope you guys enjoy the video...the look is super easy and I've been wearing it almost on a daily basis.

Products Used:

Benefit Hello Flawless Foundation - http://bit.ly/Oz4AAk
Urban Decay Primer Potion - http://bit.ly/IteY8r
Urban Decay Naked Palette Original (Smog, Buck, Darkhorse) - http://bit.ly/LGZPT2
L'Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in Iced Latte - http://bit.ly/13VPuuw
Maybelline Great Lash Mascara in Clear - http://bit.ly/13VPnPM
Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliner in Bourbon - http://bit.ly/XwcC2D
Physician's Formula Liquid Liner in Black - http://bit.ly/WQeMEo
Maybelline Full N' Soft Mascara in Very Black - http://bit.ly/SnVutu
Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Exposed - http://bit.ly/UBii6Y
MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Blonde - http://amzn.to/13UeIL1 or similar - http://amzn.to/Vf92tE
Rimmel Natural Bronzer in Sun Dance 022 - http://bit.ly/13VP73d
Nivea Chapstick - http://bit.ly/YhCHmO
MAC Lipstick in Syrup - http://bit.ly/9WPR4C
Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss in Nude Lustre - http://bit.ly/WgKFH2
Kate Spade Twirl Perfume - http://bit.ly/l3vq0E

What's really key in this look is a very nicely blended dark warm eye.  I highly recommend using a MAC 217 brush for this look.  I've tried to recreate it with other blending brushes I have but for some reason nothing looks as good as when I use the MAC blending brush.  It's the perfect density, hair type, and texture for blending out this look.  It's important that the colors are still independent but the transition between them are soft and smokey.  Here is a photo of the finished look.  The highlighter (MAC) gives the dewy/glowy skin finish that I love!

Another thing I mention in my video is using a small ELF precision brush to set the bottom eyeliner (24/7 eyeliner in bourbon) so it doesn't run and smudge during the day.  This is the only way I've found to make my waterline liner last all day without irritating my eyes.  I wear contacts and have pretty sensitive lashlines/eyes in general so I am quite picky about this process.

Thanks for watching/reading and I will talk to you guys soon! :)

Best of 2012 - Makeup/Skincare!

Hi All,

Today I have for you my favorite products of 2012!  These videos are usually my favorite to watch on other blogs/Youtube channels because they summarize absolute favorites and HG products for the individual.  I've pulled together my top highlights of the year and wanted to share them with you!

Products Mentioned:
These are absolute favorites for me this past year and I will continue to repurchase in the new year!  I forgot to mention another favorite of mine in the video which is the Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Concealer in Radiant for under-eye concealer/highlighter.  I prefer this product under the eye because it's smudge/budge-proof and the Bobbi Brown concealer is a little too creamy for the under-eye area.

As I mentioned at the end of the video, I am planning on posting a haul video very soon!  I have been shopping a ton as all the deals are crazy right now.  I got a bunch of winter stuff from J.Crew recently and also went a bit CRAZY (actually really crazy) at the Semi-Annual Victoria's Secret sale.  I do have an excuse though -- I got measured for the first time and realized I've been wearing the WRONG SIZE all my life!!!  Now that I've purchased my actual size, the bras feel so much more comfortable and aren't digging into my skin and causes rashes or redness anymore!!  Plus it was a legit excuse for me to replace my lingerie collection ;) I'm still debating whether or not to show VS purchases in my haul video because I think that's a bit weird and creepy haha.  We'll see :D

Perfume Review: Kate Spade Twirl

Hi Everyone,

I really want to write a blog post about Veronica Roth's Divergent but at the risk of sounding completely nerdy and boring, I'll distract myself with the composition of a perfume review, leaving only the following comment on the novel: READ IT ASAP.  The book is refreshingly complex in its character development, despite being a young adult fiction story, and leaves the reader wistfully in memory of a cross of Orwell's 1984, Rowling's Harry Potter, Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game, and Collin's Hunger Games.  The female protagonist (Beatrice/Tris) is beautifully strong and vulnerable, equally kind and devious, which in turn allows for emotional connection beyond anything I've read in young adult fiction recently.  Roth's deep understanding of human psychology and specifically, the method of desensitizing one to one's fears, is hauntingly brilliant and leaves the reader in awe of the world she's created in a mere 500 pages.

but alas, i digress.

What I really meant to write about is a review on a new fall perfume I purchased a few weeks ago...Kate Spade's Twirl!  The packaging is exquisite (and we would expect no less from Kate Spade) with its bright pink/red box and gold detailing.  The bottle is made from heavy glass and the cap to the spray is dense, as if molded from liquid gold.  The packaging is quite genius because the gold flecks seem to dance across any surface and reflects luminosity at every turn.  Light glints off the gold and you literally want to twirl the bottle to watch gleams twirl around your room.  At least that's how it makes me feel.

This perfume is captivating and complex in its notes; first appearing light and floral but later revealing sticky sweet blackberry and red currant undertones.  I am not sure what to compare this to but it is an extremely sweet fragrance.  I think the perfume is best worn for special occasions because 1) it is a unique scent that is multi-dimensional 2) it doesn't last more than 4 hours and 3) the packaging makes you want to order a mojito or a cosmo and delight in the finer things in life.  See below image for illustration:

Now if that packaging doesn't make you want to dress up in holiday dresses with curly confetti in your hair, I don't know what will.  The perfume is definitely one I would suggest investing in because I've never really smelled anything like it.  It invokes images of chocolate covered strawberries and champagne but I've been curled up reading Divergent all day so you'll excuse the elaborate use of imagery and metaphors in this makeup post.

Apparently the notes in this fragrance are: Mandarin, Bergamot, Baies Rose, Pink Watermelon, White Peach, Red Currant, Blackberry, Star Jasmine, Magnolia, Orange Blossom, Tiare Flower, Fresh Macaron, Luminous Musk, and Amber.

To be honest I'm not sure if I smell half these notes in the fragrance (and really, what's the difference between pink watermelon and regular watermelon or white peach or a yellow peach) but all those scents in the list above makes me want to wear this perfume.  I do have one cautious warning though, this scent can be overpowering if you're using more than one spray.  I usually find that it works perfectly well for a few hour (3-4 hours) but if you're respraying or if you're wanting this perfume to last longer, than the scent becomes overwhelmingly sweet and can be slightly overpowering.  I would stay away from using this perfume as an every day fragrance and more for nights out with friends or dinner parties and dates during the upcoming months.  It's an absolutely lovely scent, just not for 10-12 hours.

And now I have suddenly come up with the word I've been searching for since the second paragraph of this post - WHIMSICAL.  This scent is feminine, floral, and whimsical. The notes play jokes on you; one minute it's beautifully jasmine scented and the next minute it's completely smelling of french macarons.  It's a delightful perfume and definitely one that will get a lot of attention in my collection.  :)

Kate Spade Twirl is sold at Kate Spade retail stores, Nordstrom, Sephora, Ulta, and other department stores.  It is also available in various forms such as a body cream and a shower gel for those who want a lighter version of the same fragrance.  Prices start at $18.00 for the rollerball.

And not going to lie, I might wear this to sleep tonight.  I like it that much.  :)  Sweet dreams and hope you all had a great weekend!

My Favorite Haircare Products and Tools

Hi All,

Sorry I've been so MIA the past few weeks.  Work has been an absolute whirlwind as the company got ready for a big product launch and I actually got to fly to Sydney, Australia for a week at the end of October!  That was a fabulous trip (I sooooo miss the fresh seafood and amazing coffee there!) but alas I am back and making videos again.  The first one I wanted to do was my favorite haircare products and styling tools which many have been asking me about.  I think I said MONTHS ago that I was going to do this video and yes, embarrassingly I am just now getting to it but you know how it goes...life happens.

Products Mentioned:

MoroccanOil Shampoo and Conditioner
Aussie 3 Minute Miracle
Paul Mitchell Leave In Conditioner
Aveda Smooth Infusion
Aloxxi Dry Shampoo
Batiste Dry Shampoo
CHI 44 Iron Guard (Heat Protectant)
CHI Hair Straightener
Elchim 2001 Hair Dryer
Spornette Round Brush G36 XL

As I said in the video, the MoroccanOil shampoo is amazing!  I used to have issues with dandruff but after using this shampoo, my dry scalp is cured!  It's such a great hydrating shampoo that doesn't strip my hair but still leaves it clean and fresh.  I adore this shampoo.  As for dry shampoo, my absolute favorite still has to be Aloxxi's dry shampoo.  Yes, it's more expensive than Batiste and yes, it's hard to find but it's definitely worth the struggle because this is my favorite dry shampoo by far!  If you're in a rush and you barely have time to get anything done, let alone brush thoroughly through your hair to get rid of the white powder that's commonly found in all dry shampoos, then look no further.  This dry shampoo by Aloxxi goes on clear and is so effective, you'll forget when you last washed your hair.  :)  Batiste is a good drugstore alternative and for a while, I thought it was the best thing on the market but seriously guys, if you're looking for a new dry shampoo and can fork out the additional $$ for Aloxxi, I would do it.  The quality is noticeably better than anything else in drugstores and even high-end department stores.

Needless to say, I love conditioning my hair.  I have naturally curly hair (yes Asians can also have naturally curly hair!!!) and this can either be a really really good thing on good hair days, or a really really bad thing on bad hair days.  I have found that since using these three conditioners on my dry hair, my hair has become less tangled, more silky, and definitely much more manageable.  In fact, I've started leaving it natural and curly on most days.  Try it if you have unruly, dry, brittle hair because it will turn your hair condition around!  MoroccanOil conditioner leaves your hair feeling silky soft, Aussie makes it even more hydrated, and Paul Mitchell's leave in conditioner keeps the texture beautiful and voluminous for days before my next shampoo.  This is my go-to hair routine that makes it possible for a girl like me to shower and run out the door without feeling self conscious about my wild hair!

Aveda's Smooth Infusion is a life saver for days when I need my curly hair to tame itself but my hair has a mind of its own.  I usually use it on ~80% dry hair but occasionally I will also use it in the mornings on completely dry hair to tame frizz and flyaways.  I love the scent of this product as it's very refreshing, very clean, and very citrusy.  It's a lovely scent (especially compared to the musky/sandalwood fumes from MoroccanOil!) and it's always a luxury running it through my hair.

For those who are fond of blowdrying and want to tone their arms at the same time (not even kidding), Elchim 2001 Professional hairdryer is the tool for you.  This hairdryer makes my hair look like I just walked out from a fancy salon.  Used in combination with Aveda's Smooth Infusion, my hair has life and volume.  I love pampering myself and really taking the time to blow out my hair with the Spornette G36-XL round brush on the weekends or for special occasions (hello holiday parties!)  The round brush and my Elchim hair dryer are my secret weapons for my hair and though it takes about 40 minutes to perfect, the blow out can last up to 3 days with my Aloxxi dry shampoo and it gets me compliments all the time!  I'll try to do a video on how to blow out your hair (it does take a long time to perfect so don't give up!) because I think the style looks great on everyone.

Having a good haircut, good styling tools, and good maintenance products can be just as important as having high quality makeup!  Hair frames your face and can completely finish a look so be sure to take good care of your hair and really invest in some high quality products.  I hope this post/video was helpful to some of you and I will try to do a styling video in the near future.  I am thinking of doing a tutorial for a fall/winter look next because I haven't done one of those in a while so stay tuned!

Until next time,

Fall/Autumn Haul!

Hi Everyone,

Today I have a fall haul to share with all of you. I picked up a few essentials for the upcoming season (or rather, for this season) and was pretty excited about the items so I decided to film a video. The only thing I am missing from this video is BOOTS! I still need to get some nice quality boots but can't seem to find any through the usual retailers so I am still on the hunt. :)

Products mentioned:

Bath and Body Works Candles: Cranberry Woods and Lemon
The Body Shop Satsuma Body Polish
Lush Lip Scrub in Mint Julep
CHI Iron Guard
Katy Perry Lashes in Sweetie Pie and Oh Honey!
Nivea Chapsticks: A Kiss of Moisture and A Kiss of Smoothness
Essie Nail Polish in First Dance
Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Lip Stain in Honey
Banana Republic Sweaters
Papaya V-Neck Sweater
Forever 21 Gold Leaves Necklace
illy Espresso
PG Tips
Land O Lakes Hot Chocolate (especially the mint one!!)

I can't reiterate enough how nice the White Barn Cranberry Woods candle smells.  I'm kind of obsessed with the scent for fall.  Usually I tend to sway towards more citrus, fruity-floral scents, and shy away from earthy, musky, cinnamon/spice-based fragrances but this candle has me hooked!  I just want to curl up under a blanket and edit makeup videos with this candle haha.  It's lovely for the fall and I wish I had purchased another one!  The candle burns like a dream too, with an extraordinary throw and 3 very thick, sturdy, white wicks.  Compared to the Slatkin candles, these White Barn candles burn so so so well.  Perfectly uniform and liquid wax in no longer than 20-30 minutes.  Love it.  Shall wait until the next 2 for $20 sale to get more of these wonderful 14.5oz candles.

The other standout that deserves to be called out here (and in the video) is the Lush lip scrub in Mint Julep.  It's the perfect consistency for a lip scrub and leaves the lips tingling and soft.  I always follow with a chapstick before bedtime and wake up with amazing lips. If you guys haven't checked out the Lush scrub, you definitely should.  It's a staple for the winter months.

Gosh I could just rattle on and on about these products that I've included in the haul.  The Satsuma scent is to die for (even my boyfriend agrees).  The Katy Perry lashes are a new HG/fav for me.  I might even wear lashes once in a while now haha.  They are so comfortable and lightweight, I wish I had discovered them sooner!  I have yet to try the Oh Honey! pair of lashes but the Sweetie Pie ones are delicate, 100% handmade, and feel weightless on my actual lashline.  It's perfect for a gal like me who hates wearing falsies to begin with.  Maybe for those special occasions I can finally use lashes that don't bother me.  :)

Also I know that you're probably drifting off by now from the very long video/very long post but the last thing I wanted to point out is the Essie nail polish in First Dance.  This nail polish was from a collection and I picked it out pretty randomly.  It's SO SHINY!  The finish looks completely gel-like and 2 coats make for an opaque and high-shine finish.  It's lovely and perfect for the fall.

Okay that's about it guys.  Hope you enjoyed this video and I will talk to you all very soon!

September Favorites!

Hi Everyone,

I have a new video on my September favorites for all of you today.  This month I've tried out a bunch of new things and found some of my favorite HG products so I'm really excited to share them with you.  The standouts for me are the moisturizer, the lip products, the eye products...oh wait.  everything.  :D

Products Mentioned:

Eucerin Q10 Sensitive Skin Cream
Sephora Eye Makeup Remover
Maybelline PureStay Foundation in Buff
NARS Blush in Orgasm
L'Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in Iced Latte
Nivea Chapstick in A Kiss of Moisture
L'Oreal Colour Riche Balm in Tender Mauve (review here)
Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Mauve It Over
Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss in Pink Pop

Book of the Month: Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert

I am seriously obsessed with all the products I've mentioned in this video and I can't remember the last time I felt this way about every product in a favorites video.  The skin moisturizer is superb, a real gem in my skincare collection (which trust me, is vast), the eye makeup remover is effective and affordable, the lipstick in Mauve It Over is a daily pick-me-up...the list goes on and on.  I would seriously repurchase any of the items in the list above and I hope you guys decide to check out at least a couple new products because trust me, you won't be disappointed!  I will be doing separate reviews on all the products I've mentioned above (if I haven't done so already) because I really believe they are all excellent products and thus warrant their own review so look out for those coming soon.  They probably won't be videos but just individual quick and short blog posts.

Fittingly, the book of the month is Madame Bovary, an exploration of a woman's obsession with beauty, lust, and passion.  Emma Bovary is discontent with her average mediocre life to a country doctor and sets out to search for the life of idealistic passion and heightened sensationalism that ultimate results in her demise.  Published in the mid 1800s, Madame Bovary spoke to many of the bourgeois women which helped the book's popularity soar.  I really enjoyed reading this and deemed it rich in its analytical contexts, exciting in its sensual and suspenseful plot line, and definitely a must-read for all beauty enthusiasts.

I hope you all enjoyed watching or reading my September favorites.  Filming is no longer a pain and I am hoping I get to do at least a video a week if not more in the near future.  I do think I have to invest in a couple softboxes or artificial lighting because Seattle is starting to enter the fall season, which is great because it's my favorite time of year but also sucks because it deems natural lighting irregular and unpredictable.  Now I am off to make my favorite illy coffee in a french press and watch the latest episodes of ABC's Revenge and Scandal.  Love Sunday nights.  :)

Until next time,

TAG: Most Worn Things - Summer Edition

Hi Everyone,

I've really been enjoying this tag that's going around on YouTube of blogger's favorite things of the summer...so I decided to do it!  Plus I wanted to test out my new camera...which I absolutely LOVE!  It's so much easier to film on the camera and thus editing takes much less time.  I will definitely be filming more now that I have a camera that actually works with dim lighting and doesn't rely on daylight haha.

Here are the questions for the tag with my answers in parentheses:

1) Most worn nail polish (Revlon ColorStay)
2) Most worn hair product (CHI Straightener)
3) Most worn bag (Nine West)
4) Most worn shoes (Mossimo Rose Gold Flip-Flops)
5) Most worn accessories (Michael Kors Rose Gold Watch in 'Blair')
6) Most worn clothing item (Guess Dress)
7) Most worn foundation (Concealer: Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch in 'Radiant')
8) Most worn blush and/or bronzer (Blush: NARS Orgasm; Bronzer: Rimmel Natural Bronzer in 'Sun Bronze')
9) Most worn lip product (Korres Lip Butter Glaze in Quince)
10) Most worn mascara (Lancome Hypnose Mascara in Deep Black Non-WP)
11) Most worn eyeshadow (Urban Decay Naked Palette)

I am actually wearing most of the products I mentioned in the video/photos below.  The only item I wish I mentioned in the video that I didn't was L'Oreal's Infallible Eyeshadow in Iced Latte but I will do a separate blog post on the product this week.  It's the perfect inner corner highlight and is a beautiful dupe of MAC's Nylon or Stila's Kitten.  Either way, it brightens up your eyes and gives you a wide awake look!

I thought this was a really fun video to do because summer is officially over and my favorite season of the year is arriving - FALL!  I absolutely adore fall season because it's not too hot, it's cold enough to bundle up in a blanket with Land O' Lakes hot chocolate and illy espresso but not freezing enough to warrant a wool coat outside.  The air is crisp and nips at your face and all senses seem to be heightened.  I absolutely adore this season and I am so so so excited that it is finally autumn!  I can't wait to share some of my fall favorite looks/products.  <3

I hope you all have a great Sunday and I will speak to you all soon!
